Celebration of World Cultures – International Week 2011

I’ve neglected this little blog! There’s always something going on in IELI to keep me (and the students) busy. We welcomed 96 new students for our Spring 2 term! I think the new students are settled in and starting to feel at home here in Denton. That’s my hope at least! We have our PALs [...]

Back to School

IELI welcomed 171 new students from 25 countries for the Fall 1 term. We are so happy they are here! Orientation was a busy week. We had registration, placement testing, an ice cream social, orientation sessions, campus tours, and a shopping trip to help our new students. A student organization on campus also hosted a [...]

Congratulations Graduates!

It’s been a week of celebrations and good-byes at IELI. We celebrated the graduation of 41 students this summer with a special graduation ceremony at UNT’s Murchison Performing Arts Center. Three IELI students from Korea gave beautiful musical performances during the ceremony. We also recognized our visiting scholars from Zirve University in Turkey who were [...]

Spring 2 Wrap-Up

Take a look at some of the fun things that took place in IELI this term: At the ranch, students and teachers relaxed, played volleyball, basketball, and soccer, flew kites, went on tractor rides, played field games, went through a giant maze (see below), and had a great lunch. It was a perfect day to [...]

Spring 1 Welcome Party

We welcomed 66 new students to IELI this term! Here’s a link to some photos from the IELI Welcome Party last week. We had fun playing games, winning prizes, and enjoying some great pizza. http://international.unt.edu/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=736

The IELI Star

This semester’s IELI Star magazine is now up on the IELI website. The Star features some of our students’ writing from the Fall 1 and Fall 2 terms. Some students wrote articles on their own for the Star, and some teachers essays and poems that their students had written in class. Either way, I always look [...]

More Halloween Photos

As promised, here are some more photos from the Halloween party last week. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Carving and Halloween

This last month was really busy for me at work, so I haven’t been doing a very good job with blogging. I am going to try to do better! Last week, I arranged a pumpkin carving party for IELI students. We had about 50 students show up, eager to participate in this American fall tradition. [...]

Fall 1 Funny Photos

Back by popular demand, here are some of the funniest class photos for Fall 1. This term we had a few classes bring out props for their photos, which I thought was pretty cool. The winner for “craziest” class photo gets their picture printed in IELI’s Weekly Memo, a newsletter that goes out to all [...]

WorldFest on the Square

UNT-International, with groups from the Denton community, put together the first ever WorldFest on the Square last Saturday. Check out the article that the Denton Record-Chronicle wrote about WorldFest. The weather was perfect, the food was great, and the students who performed dances and musical numbers were tremendous. WorldFest was a fun way for UNT students and [...]
